Casa Magna Domus Magnus Limitada

My lovely wife and I were up at the Lit Cigar Lounge last Thursday night for the Casa Magna and Quesada Cigar event. Believe it or not, it was snowing from Issaquah all the way up to the Casino, plus Hwy 18 was closed westbound. Unbelievable...What month is this again? Great way to start Spring, eh?

Anyway, while I was in the humidor trying to make up my mind, my friend Narong recommended that I try a cigar that he really likes - the Casa Magna Donus Magnus Limitada.

Wrapper: Nicaragua Sun Grown
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Strength: Medium-Full
Size: 4.75 x 50

So what did I think? Loved it!

I've been smoking a lot of really BIG cigars lately, so when I first held this little gem in my hand, I thought it looked kind of puny - just a short little box pressed guy. But...

What it may have lacked in size, it delivers in all the other categories. After the first few puffs I thought to myself that this is the perfect cigar...

Super smooth, but not necessarily mild by any means. I'd consider it to be medium to full bodied. The draw and amount of smoke on each puff is absolutely perfect for my taste - big plumes of smoke, but not a smoke bomb. Taste is delicious, of course. Maybe towards the end of the cigar it might not have been as good as the beginning, but overall just an excellent, excellent smoke!

Would I buy it again? Really? You have to ask?

I've always liked the Casa Magna line and I would recommend that you smoke this beauty nice and slow...it tends to catch up with you, if you know what I mean.

Side Notes:
Guess where I'll be for New Year's Eve this year? Tahitian Islands. Just booked it.
;)

March Madness

One of the most exciting sporting events of the year, the NCAA basketball tournament, begins this week. We invite you to play hooky from work and join us Thursday and Friday, as there will be game all day long!
If that's not possible, you can still join in the fun with us, by filling out a tournament bracket in our Lit bracket contest. Click here to join, it's free! You'll need a Yahoo! account, and the password is 'cigars.' I'll be giving the winner a box of Punch Gran Puro cigars, compliments of Patrick at General Cigar Co.
Right now, I'm the only one in the pool, and I don't want to have to smoke all those cigars!
If that wasn't enough fun, we also have an event this Thursday in Lit from 6-9pm. We'll be featuring cigars from S.A.G. Imports as well as 3 different expressions of Mt. Gay Rum during this event, along with a flight and a great Mojito special.
The new Heisenberg cigar will be available at the event in addition to the Casa Magna line. Here is an article from halfwheel with a little background on this mysterious cigar.
As always, we'll have some great specials and prize giveaways, so mark your calendar!

Whiskey Fest coming Soon

For the entire month of April, Lit will be celebrating the arrival of Spring with a special Whiskey Fest menu available all month long.
We want to thank all of our loyal customers who support Lit by buying their cigars from our humidor instead of one of those discount websites. Also, you are such a great group, who are always willing to try new and interesting spirits that we feature.
Whiskey Fest means prices you won't find anywhere in this state. For example, we'll be featuring Johnnie Walker Blue, normally $35 a shot, for $24 all month long!
So please join us often in April as we celebrate Whiskey Fest with over a dozen premium whiskeys at a special price to show our appreciation to you, the guests who have made our lounge such a success!
Happy Smoking!

Toraño weekend

I don't know about you, but when I think of Toraño cigars, I don't necessarily think of them as a "Premium" cigar. I mean, I generally don't put them in the same category as say a Padrón Anniversary Series.

That being said, Toraño cigars are some of my favorite cigars to smoke - no doubt about it! I smoked three different varieties over the weekend and all of them were stellar! Excellent cigars!

Would I buy them again: Heck Yes! Besides being a great smoke, they're cheap!

What can I say, they're "my style" of cigar...

Side note:  Did you make it to the fundraiser over at the Vertigo Club on Sunday? Let me know how it went!

Cigar Association or WA Fundraiser SOLD OUT!

If you haven't bought your ticket for the Rain City Cigar - Cigar Association of Washington Fundraiser over at the Vertigo Club this weekend, you're too late - I checked today and it's SOLD OUT.

That's actually GREAT news for the cigar community here in Washington State!

The event supports the Cigar Association of Washington and their efforts in Olympia to secure the passage of HB-170 and SB-5070. This legislation would modify the State smoking ban and allow the return of Cigar Bars and Cigar Lounges for the use of Aficionados like you in Washington state.

Upcoming Events

Please join us for our next event, Thursday, March 21 in Lit from 6-9pm. We'll be joined by Brad Weinfeld from SAG, as we feature Casa Magna and Quesada cigars. Here's a link that actually works to a nice little interview with Brad to give you a little more background on this company.
We'll be featuring 3 different expressions of Mt. Gay Rum during this event, along with a flight and a great Mojito special.
The new Heisenberg cigar will be available at the event in addition to the Casa Magna line. Here is an article from halfwheel with a little background on this mysterious cigar.

Next Thursday also marks the beginning of March Madness, and you know I'll be rooting for my UNLV Rebels to win it all! I invite all of you to fill out a bracket in our Lit Cigar Lounge Challenge. You'll need a Yahoo! account to sign up. The password to join this group is 'cigars'.
Enter your bracket after the field is selected this Sunday, and the one who picks the winners the most accurately will get a box of Punch Gran Puro cigars compliments of our friend Patrick at General Cigar Co. You must be able to pick up your prize in person. Good Luck!

Jameson Cocktail Feature

We hope you enjoyed our Jameson event with Sibeal Bird on Sunday. We had a lot of fun and plan to bring the wheel of prizes back again sometime soon!
In addition to planning that fantastic event, we also partnered with Jameson to produce a video, featuring our very own Nicole mixing a signature Lit cocktail, the Irish Vesper.
Enjoy the video here and share it with your friends, then come in and enjoy the Irish Vesper the next time you're at Lit.
Make sure to let Nicole how much better she is in front of the camera than this guy!
Happy Smoking!

Los Blancos Criollo

Had a chance to smoke one of these Los Blancos Criollo cigars on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't have anything handy to write with, so I jotted a few notes down on my cell phone while I smoked it.

Here's what I scribbled ...

Beautiful torpedo, 52 x 6.50.
Very mild.
Smooth; maybe too smooth?
Tight draw.
Not a lot of smoke.
Burn uneven.
Sorry, draw way too tight.
Plugged?
Not much flavor.
Too mild.
Halfway - still looking for some flavor.
Final third - finally starting to develop.
Draw improving.
Best part - final 10 minutes.

You can probably tell that I wasn't real impressed with the cigar. Biggest issue was indeed the tight draw - way too much work, plus it lacked flavor overall. (just my opinion)

Would I buy it again? Neg, not a chance, sorry...

Had I not smoked a couple of other really nice cigars (J Fuego & Flor de las Antillas) over the weekend, I might not have judged this cigar so harshly. But on the other hand, this really wasn't my style of smoke - looks can be deceiving sometimes...

Side Notes:
I talked to a reliable source on Saturday afternoon and he told me that the Seattle Cigar Expo will be back this year in August. He gave me a few details, but I'll hold off on publishing anything until it becomes official.
Stay tuned!

We'll also be doing a little spring cleaning in our humidor. We'll have some great deals on a variety of brands as we make way for 2013's anticipated new releases. There's also a twist! We will unveil our wheel of prizes, and with a qualifying purchase, you'll be able to spin the wheel for a chance at winning some extremely rare cigars, including the 2012 Arturo Fuente Unnamed Reserva, Tatuaje Monster #5 (The Mummy) and the Añejo #77 Shark!

New In Our Humidor

We have a few new additions to our humidor in the past few weeks. Our Spring Cleaning event on Sunday will help clear some space so we can add even more new cigars, so please join us to take part!

Litto Gomez Diez (LG) - This Dominican Puro, the pride of La Flor Dominicana's Litto Gomez, has been on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list numerous times and is a cigar we've been waiting in line to receive for years. La Flor Dominicana only sells this cigar to a few select retailers, and we've finally made the cut! It's a full bodied cigar that is chock full of complexity - one of the best in the world!

La Gloria Cubana Serie R Little Belicoso - A one time Limited Edition release from La Gloria, the Little Belicoso comes in both Natural and Maduro and features an uncut foot and a big ring gauge (5x57).

H. Upmann Legacy - We smoked the samples for this new release from H. Upmann and were very impressed! Using only vintage tobacco from 2008 and an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, the Legacy is full of flavor, medium to full bodied, and reasonably priced.

Try one of these new cigars next time you come in!

Happy Smoking!

Rocky Patel Private Cellar Robusto

Size: 5 x 50
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

Bottom line: I liked it! Firmly packed robusto size, nice draw, fair amount of smoke, pretty smooth, medium to full bodied. Towards the end the draw was a little tight and the flavor spiced up, but still very enjoyable. Perfect cigar for a Sunday afternoon.

Would I buy it again? Sure! I might not go out of my way to find one, but I could easily choose this over something else. Now on the other hand, on Friday night I smoked a Toraño Exodus 1960, in my opinion that cigar clearly wins between the two. Sorry, that's just my opinion...

Side note:
Anyone notice the sun poking its head out yesterday? It's about frickin time!
